Blogging with a purpose!
Wow, it's been a long time since I put the "pen to paper" with my thoughts. So why now, what's new and what's different?
Well, lately, I've felt strongly re-drawn toward Christian apologetics and studying related information out there in the fields of theology, science, and even philosophy. More and more, I feel it's irresponsible to not read up on these things and form well-informed opinions about why I believe what I believe. Even the Bible, in 1 Peter 3:15, tells us to always be prepared to give an answer (defend...apologetics) for why we believe. Too many Christians believe without a clue as to why their faith is based on "truth," as opposed to any other religion or world view. Frankly, it's a little embarrassing and perhaps irresponsible. God never tells us to believe blindly, nor does He say that we will be rewarded more greatly for knowing less and still believing.
I hope to be able to compile my thoughts and findings here, even if they are just wacky metaphors and examples. Anything that helps shape what I believe, really. Over time, these views may mold a bit into something a little more well-defined, but we'll see when I get there. I want to keep an open-minded--within reason, of course...not everything is worth considering as seriously--and most importantly, consider all sides of an issue.
For that matter, I resent the title claimed by secularists as "free thinkers." What's so free-thinking about saying that God is a fairy tale and that world views are clearly superior? Is discounting Christian possibilities really as free and all-encompassing as they believe? When Richard Dawkins equates studying the Bible more deeply to reading up on leprechauns, sounds like he's already made up his mind to me. Why are Christians the only ones accused of being dogmatic and narrow? We all have opinions and have drawn at least some conclusions for ourselves, including secularists out there. Let's be real and stop kidding ourselves.
